Reinforcement Sessions

Reinforcement sessions is the name we give to the classes we hold from November to early December, right after the school year has ended. These sessions are designed to ensure that children do not forget what they were taught once classes end and to get them ready for the next school year. Sessions take place all day with a hundred or more children participating every day. Most importantly, at the end of the reinforcement sessions, the older youth take tests which determine which of them will be offered scholarships to continue their education into middle school or high school. In Guatemala the step from primary school to middle school is often the difference between a life in poverty and a life of economic stability. Only half of Guatemalan children make that transition.
