Developing World Connections

The Canadian organization Developing World Connections initiated Open Windows’ community volunteer program many years ago, starting with the construction of houses for some of the neediest families we serve. Since that time, DWC has built more houses and has provided most of our community volunteers, adding eco-stoves to the services it helps us provide. Its “Light Up Guatemala” campaign, usually taking place in the fall, has been responsible for providing hundreds of families in and around San Miguel Dueñas with smoke-free cooking. You can learn more about DWC at: https://developingworldconnections.org/.

Casa Flor Ixcacol

Casa Flor Ixcaco is a women’s weaving cooperative in San Juan La Laguna, Sololá, which specializes in organic cotton and natural dyes, keeping traditional methods alive. Casa Flor will donate 10 percent of the price of all items Open Windows supporters purchase (15 percent if you buy on-site in San Juan). Just include the code AVA2001 with your order and you will automatically contribute to Open Windows. Look at the full range of products the women at Casa Flor offer at: https://www.woven-gt.com/.

Volunteer Latin America

Volunteer Latin America is the first organization to post volunteer projects on behalf of Open Windows. Its motto, “Volunteering abroad shouldn’t cost the earth” points to both the reasonable costs of the projects it chooses to advertise and the nature of the work those volunteer opportunities involve. You can see all the possibilities they offer for volunteering in Latin America at https://www.volunteerlatinamerica.com.
